Just checking in. It has been way too long since I’ve been on here but I am up to my eyeballs in orders for my ornaments. So, before I dive back into them I’ll just give a quick update. Since the baby was born it has been non stop around here with one thing or another.
We had someone sick in the house for pretty much most of October. Everyone but me and the baby got something and just passed it around. It was pretty awful. And even the baby got a stuffy nose and still has it. Thankfully that ended just in time for Halloween. The kids had a great time and the weather was perfect. Next came Josiah’s birthday. Can’t believe my little baby is now 5! I also can’t believe that having only been a mom 5 years that I have 3 kids. We finally got to have Josiah’s Star Wars birthday party on Friday and it was so much fun. We kept it pretty low key and had enough Star Wars to make it legit but didn’t go overboard. I have zero extra time right now for doing anything crafty. We did buy a pumpkin pinata 50% off after halloween and painted it silver to make it look like the death star. Otherwise we were unabashedly commercial with our decorations, goody bags, etc. The picture above is when Ken was putting the kids through Jedi training. At the end of it he put on the Darth Vader helmet Josiah wore for Halloween and a cape and let the kids beat him up with their blow up lightsabers. They loved it.
Right after that Ken packed up and headed out for a camping trip with the youth from our church. I believe it was my first night with all 3 kids by myself. Thankfully it all went smoothly.
Today Ken’s parents arrived. We are so glad to have them. We are doing Thanksgiving here and it’ll be my first time ever cooking for it. (I have done a turkey before though.) But it has been sooo insane around here that we still have to get the groceries for it. And tomorrow we’re headed to Sea World. But we did finally get the turkey tonight so it can thaw in time. Talk about cutting it close.
The thing that is really making it challenging to get it all done is that I am blessed with a million (this is not an exageration…ok, maybe a little) orders for my personalized ornaments. Ninety percent of the work I do on them is after 8 when the big kids are down so I am up pretty late each night and my little boy likes to be a bit fussy during this time which can really slow things down. So, if you don’t hear from me for a while just know that I am sewing away making ornaments for all the babies born in the year 2012!
Oh, yeah that reminds me. I did just finish a big order of sock animals for someone and they asked me to make a mallard for them. It was quite a challenge…those silly birds have so many colors on them! But I am really happy with how he turned out. I’ll share pictures when I can.
I hope you are all doing well and getting ready to have a happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving, Jocelyn! We’re starting ours with a nice case of croup and a persistent high fever. So much for travel. Y’all be safe. I hope all the bugs stay away until after the first of the year.
PS — A certain sock pickle has been a snuggly life-saver for a sick baby. So glad to have it.
Oh no! That’s no fun! We had that same thing here. I hope it goes quickly and doesn’t spread through the family. I am so glad the little pickle is helping a little though. 🙂 I hope she feels better soon! Sorry it is messing up your holiday plans.
