This is a post I wanted to have out right after the new year but kept getting delayed. But better late than never! I thought it was fun seeing all the names I was given to make ornaments with. It seems to be an interesting indicator of what names were popular for babies of 2012. Now, this is totally not scientific for many reasons one of which is because some of these names were actually for babies born previous years. Most of them are new baby ones though. Also, some of the names I’m sure are shortened versions of their formal name like Will instead of William, but I just typed what they wrote, which is also why some of them have a middle name included. And you’ll notice that some names are the same except one letter off…that isn’t a mistake, there were lots of close variations. There were also some names from foreign countries which is why some might seem more unusual – although some of the most unusual are from the US.
Seeing this list made me very glad we have a cat named Jack which prevented me from naming William that. As much as I love that name, I wouldn’t want him to be in a class with 5 others! Of course, William is also a popular name but apparently with people who buy personalized ornaments Jack was the top!
So, without further ado, here’s the list. I didn’t want to make this post a mile long with names so click on the pictures to see the names larger. Do you see any that surprise you with their popularity? Do you see any new favorites?
Speaking of baby names, here is a FABULOUS site for anyone looking to name their baby or who just likes talking baby names. It is www.swistlebabynames.blogspot.com. It is a great way to get unbiased help when having trouble finding the perfect name. And now even though we already have our baby name I still go back and read it all the time. I love seeing what others are thinking about for names. And it is great to see that we weren’t the only ones struggling.
All I could think is WOW. You certainly have been busy! That is a nice name list. I’ve never even heard the name Declan until last year, but keep seeing the name pop up. Wonder of its origins. Ugo Cosimo?
I hadn’t heard the name Declan either until that show Revenge. And so it has been funny to see it popping up so much. And Ugo was from Italy if I remember correctly. 🙂 And yes, I was very busy after the baby was born. I had never developed callouses on my fingers before from sewing.
That picture of William soooooo cute! Thanks for the name lists, my sis has been looking for girls names and maybe this will help. Hope you guys are doing well, miss you all!
Is this your twin? She’s pregnant again?! Well, hope this helps! We miss you too. And that picture of William is going to go on our wall with the similar pictures of the other two kids when they were that age.
Tatum Campbell is an awesome name. That kid is destined for success. I love strong names like that. And I can’t help but wondering if Ripken’s parents are die-hard baseball fans because I have never heard that name used as a first name before.
That is a strong name. Maybe it is because both names are surnamey?
From my perspective as a midwife, I am seeing a serious overuse of the name ‘Aiden’ – in all it’s many variations: Aiden (different spellings), Brayden (and it’s spellings), Caiden (ditto), Drayden (ditto), Grayden (ditto, ditto), Hayden,…. well, you get the idea. Almost any consonant followed by the Aiden sound. I would hate to be a teacher in a few years! And good heavens! SERIOUS calloused fingers!
I’m sure you do see a lot of those names! I really love Aiden but two of my good friends here have a Braden and Cayden. There was no way I was going to add an Aiden to that…and then I found out how popular it was nationally and then I really wasn’t going to do it. Plus we tried to avoid names that end with N anyway.
Wow!!! What a list, I love this. Full of great names too… Christopher Robin took me by suprise. I love the name Nora. I wanted that name for Jaylea. Oh and I love Williams picture, it will go great next to the others.
I love the name Nora too. Well, I guess if you have girl #4 you can name her that! 🙂 It was really hard for me to get a good picture of him. I had to try two separate days (a couple weeks apart). I couldn’t get his head high enough most of the time and then when he did I would take a bad picture because I wasn’t looking through the lens so I could make eye contact with him.
Ha ha! I’m hoping “if” we have a fourth, it will finally be a boy.
Well, it’d be a bit different but I guess you could name the boy that too! just kidding.
And now we’re having girl #4 and naming her Nora, ahh. Complete!
This is so funny since I had totally forgotten about this conversation. Guess it was meant to be!
