• Taming Wild Horses – The Making of my First Pattern Called Pasture Pals

Big News!  Some of you have been asking for years and finally I finished a sewing pattern for my sock unicorn, horse, and zebra!  The pattern is called Pasture Pals and is ready for you to buy today!  To make it an even sweeter, it’s currently 40% off!  Yea!  You can find it here. And now for those of you who like the long back story and to see variations I’ve made over the years, here you go: This post is years in the making.  When I first started The Nesting Spot in 2009, I made sock and glove animals.  I loved making them but after my third child was…

  • A Closer Look at My New Invitations

I’m so excited to finally be able to share what I’ve been working on the last couple months.  I’ve gone back and forth about what all I want to offer in my shop for a long time now.  Shipping is much more costly and difficult than it was when in the US so I’ve wanted to sell things that were digital.  I had thought about selling my old art digitally but have been unsure about just putting my art out there like that.  And then it just suddenly hit me one evening that  I could sell custom invitations.  They would fit in with the vibe of my shop with being…

  • Introducing My Custom Printable Baby Shower Invitation Collections

Today I want to show you what I’ve been working on the last 2 months.  On Monday I will share a post I wrote that goes into detail about why I made them and the process I went through from beginning until now.  So please come back for that! But first, here are the printable invitations I have created and am selling in my shop.  They feature watercolored animals and designs which give it a custom, high-end look without the custom, high-end price!  To start with I have 6 different themes with 2 of those having a blue/pink color option.  I used my animal ornaments as my initial inspiration so…

  • Traveling with Kids – Rome, Italy

After our night in Casorate Sempione, near Milan, we took 2 trains down to Rome.  I’ll share more about the process of train travelling in another post.  We spent the most nights in Rome so this will be the longest post and has a ton of pictures.  So I apologize for it being long. Since we spent 4 nights in Rome the best deal for us ended up being to stay in an apartment.  I had preferred us to take a van taxi to the apartment so it’d be quick and we wouldn’t get lost but Ken convinced me to try taking a bus.  It made the process take longer…

  • Bookending our Italy Trip in Casorate Sempione

While we are living in Scotland and so close to everything on this side of the world we want to take advantage of cheaper flights and shorter travel times as our bank account will allow.  In April, we went on a 10 day trip to Italy while the kids had a two week break from school.  I wanted us to visit Rome, Florence, and Venice to see some of the big sites.  We found really cheap tickets in and out of Milan on Easy Jet which wasn’t ideal but we made it work.  After all the planning was done I might have done things a little different since the money…

  • They’re Here + New Font and Tail Options

The ornaments are now in the shop!  You can find them here. Also, I decided to add a cursive font to the options this year since I had a couple of requests last year.  So now there are four font options. And for the bunny this year there are four options for the tail.  You can choose white, pink, blue, or gray.  The pink and blue are a little different as well.  They are a bit speckled.  You can see all four options in the photo below.

  • Shop Re-Opening Monday!

Thank you for your patience as I’ve been setting up shop here in Scotland! I’ve been working hard to get my ornaments close to ready so that when they are purchased I can get them shipped quickly.  It has taken me longer than I would like or had planned but I am finally ready to open. I’ll be listing four types of ornaments on Monday, November 2.  I’ve made about 50 of each kind and when they are gone they are gone.  Normally, I would keep making more but it has been difficult to find supplies in my new homeland so I can’t just run out and purchase more supplies…

  • A Bit of This and That

I’ve got a special video for you today.  It’s probably not at all what you’d expect but I wanted to share something very dear to our hearts…our washing machine.  The washing machine in our house plays a lovely, happy tune every time it is done washing to let you know it’s finished.  It just makes us so happy to hear it and makes you feel glad to do laundry.  Ha, never thought I’d say that.  All washing machines should play this tune. Other things: We just learned last week that children in the primary grades (that’s the equivalent of Kinder through 6th grade) don’t get grades.  That was a surprise.…

  • Have You Seen the Mifold Booster Seat?

*Update down below on how we like them. I have been keeping an eye on a new booster seat for the kids. It’s called the Mifold.  Instead of pushing the kids up so that the belts sit on them correctly this pulls the belts down to them.  It is still in preproduction and for pre-sale on Indiegogo.  I finally pulled the trigger and bought two for my big kids so that I could get the 20% discount. I’m super excited that it takes up so much less space than a traditional booster seat since fitting 3 kids in the back of a car is a challenge.  We are currently car…
